Thomas Duffy Transfer Student Ambassador About Me: I was born and raised in San Mateo, CA down in the Bay Area. After high school I attended community college at the College of San Mateo. I spent two years there until I took a semester off to work and make some money. After some time working and with the advice from my sister (who went to Humboldt at the time), I decided to transfer up here. I was very unsure of what I wanted to do with my life and studies, but I knew I wanted to work outside and with my hands. Because of this I settled on Forestry Operations as my major. After about 2 and a half years here at Humboldt, I’m finally approaching my last semester and plan to graduate in the fall of 2024. Being a transfer student myself, I know all too well the trials and tribulations that come with moving to a new place with new people. This is what motivated me to become a Transfer Ambassador; to provide support to transfer students and promote a sense of belonging. I attended Reedley High School and then a few years later graduated from Reedley College with my Associates in Computer Science and my Associates for Transfer in Mathematics. I had only heard of Cal Poly Humboldt about a year before my graduation because I had a friend who attended and graduated from there, and when I heard that they were starting a Software Engineering pathway as soon as I got there I took that as a sign that this is the school for me. I am currently in my second semester here, and although initially I was nervous of how I would fit in at Cal Poly Humboldt, I have now become accustomed to the academic environment and love the scenery and community here! I joined the Transfer Student Organization because being a transfer student myself, I feel like I can sympathize with some of the concerns that other incoming transfer students may have when coming here, and I would like to use the knowledge I’ve gained about the school and area to help others. There are many opportunities and fun events that are provided for the students here, and I’d love to discuss these services with any student that needs help discovering what is available for them!
